Closest Store Calgary Chinook, Alberta. This recorder is loaded with goodies although not all great but none that are so bad that it affects the usefulness. The unit comes with an 8 track recorder although it can only record two channels at a time. It can, however, bounce the recorded track to other tracks and combine multiple tracks.
The recorder also includes a number of guitar effects including distortion, phaser, chorus flanger, compressor and pitch shifter. This where I had my issues. I found that some of the effects where not up to the quality I get from my stomp boxes. Just me nit-picking. One of the other major pluses is the on board drum machine which sounds excellent and has a number of drum patterns you can use or you can make your own.
At first the menus can be a bit daunting ffatures the instruction manual a bit vague but there are several good tutorials on youtube that help zoom r8 features navigate the recorder. Most of feature menus are self explanatory and videos definitely helpful. All in all there isn't another 8 track recorder that will touch the zoom R8 for value, extras and price.

I can record a rhythm with featres, then overdub with more guitar, and with any of the thousand sounds, including drum loops, r88 my Посмотреть еще Go:Keys.
I play it all back through a powered pa speaker featutes a backtrack, and practice lead guitar or writing lyrics. But, I can't save or edit the backtrack once it's built.
Creating zoom r8 features new song, starts with recording the old backtrack to my iPhone, because it will be deleted when building the new song. I wanted to advance my songwriting, be able to record multi tracks like the Ditto does with overdubs including vocals, and be able to featues each track. Opened the box to see an enormous manual and thought, this won't be simple. But I was wrong. Sure, I had to spend a couple hours reading the manual and trying it all out, but after that, it's quite intuitive, a simple but effective user interface. Over the next hour, I built zoom r8 features zoomm track song and was playing it back through the speaker. I flipped back and forth through the manual a bit.
In the next hour, I was editing and deatures, saving the song to the SD card, and starting a new song. Only revisiting parts of the manual. Sound reproduction seems great, just as good as feautres Ditto for the instruments, really great for the vocals I was surprised to hear my voice so clearly.

The Zoom R8 itself is a great bit of kit. Compact but robust, clever design and feature packed. Sound quality is excellent as long as you have good sound coming in. Always check sound quality and levels before recording. Used quality monitors or headphones. The recording is a doddle and its relatively simple to add effects from presets. Looping and sequencing are easy as long as you use beats and bars as your time sequence.
Always remember to set your Tempo to the BPM. I am delighted with this little marvel. In hindsight the R16 or R24 would have been better suited to my needs but I have a workaround in using the recorder on my keyboard and a bit of Abelton assistance.
I've had a blast since its arrival. Couldn't recommend it highly enough. Like all complex systems you MUST give it time to become familiar with its workings. I love the fact that you have 8 dedicated inputs for keyboards, mics, guitars and other gear. Though it only has one phantom power it does work well.
I give this 5 starts for 2 reason only. The downside is simply this. You have to download and install the Zoom driver for windows 10 even though it says it will install it automatically.
This is NOT true if you have your firewall active on Windows The other issue is that the unit has not updated the firmware since and that is a huge issue when connecting to a dedicated DAW like a Roland Fantom or Motif. I will still give this 5 stars for fact that Zoom has good products and they pack their multi-track recorders with features that others like Tascam simply do not offer. The price is a bit high for an older unit however ask yourself a simple question?
How many Multi-track recorders today offer more than 2 inputs for the price of the Zoom R16? It will run very well on software listed above however some older versions or "open source" software may not work or have issues.

The Zoom R8 is an exceptionally portable and powerful digital multitrack recorder that works equally well as a standalone unit or integrated with a computer-based DAW. Join now for unlimited access. Guitar World Guitar World. As for the process of recording, it really is a no-brainer. Using the Auto Punch-in feature to amend segments of audio could not be simpler, and assigning inputs to record tracks is equally straightforward.
If, for example, the LED is green, a track is turned on and playing; if it is flashing red, it is armed; and when it stays red, audio is being recorded. Similarly, adjusting the preamps and applying phantom power requires nothing but common sense. The biggest problem with the R8 is that each of its operating modes inevitably compromises the others a little. Primarily, it is optimised for recording and playback both to SD card and via USB , so its sampling and controller functions are not as well developed or implemented as they might be.
For example, by accommodating a row of drum pads, Zoom have not been able to find space for a row of band-assignable EQ and pan knobs, the inclusion of which would make mixing much quicker and easier, and would also be very useful in control-surface mode. It would be useful to have more audio editing tools onboard.
Granted, Zoom intend a DAW to be used for audio editing purposes, but as there are mastering processors and mixdown tracks, there should also be the editing tool necessary for preparing audio mixes for mastering.
As there's already a sequencer on-board, perhaps some kind of automation system could be implemented in future — and it would certainly benefit the process of creating mixes. For me, being able to get in and mess about with audio lessens the need for automation, while if you have automation, that can help overcome dodgy audio recording.
In other words, having one or the other here would be an improvement. The R8 is not without its flaws, but for those getting into music technology for the first time, it is potentially a great buy. The sequencer and sampler will enable those interested in hip-hop, dance music and other assorted electronica to emulate the basic production techniques they are hearing, and the recording facilities will introduce newcomers to the wonders of multitracking and mixing in the most straightforward manner.
Ultimately, the R8 is a better eight-track digital recorder and stereo interface than it is a controller, and there are drum machines and samplers that have more controls and are easier to use, but all things considered, the specification is rather impressive. A lot of functionality has been packed into a very portable and competitively priced package. There aren't too many products performing as many different jobs as the R8, but the Boss BR is one of the few that does.
It too offers rhythm facilities, operates as a DAW controller and audio interface, includes built-in microphones and a powerful effects processor, and is just as portable.
One notable edge it has over the R8 is its ability to record four tracks simultaneously, but it does cost more.
There is little else out there, unless the audio interface and control surface features are not essential, in which case Fostex's MR8 MkII and Tascam's DP become candidates for consideration.
Both aim to attract ex-analogue multitrack cassette users by providing plenty of simple-to-use, hands-on controls, and are similar in most other aspects to the R8.

The fact that it can both serve as control surface and external audio interface for your DAW or just be a stand-alone multi-track recorder is really what makes this a great tool for me.
